Islam (meaning surrender), the world's monotheistic religion founded in Arabia in the seventh. century. Its founder was Mohammed, and its followers are called Muslims.
The Islamic era begins 622nd, when Muhammad with his followers moved from Mecca (where the then Arabs opposed the spread of Islam) to Medina (Hijra).
In his mature years, Mohammed began to express the mystical features and has a habit of withdrawing into the hills to think. In one such occasion, at the age of 40 years, received a revelation in which he was invited to branding paganism and polytheism, which was flourishing in Mecca and began to preach the existence of one God, Allah.
