Masons, also referred to as the "Freemasons" (engl. free masonry, the French franc-maçonnerie) is a mystical, strictly hierarchically organized movement that has emerged in conditions of liberal enlightenment. It builds upon the tradition of masonry-stone carving-construction guilds, and thus derive their symbolic divider and brackets.
Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest fraternity. The lessons Freemasonry teaches in its ceremonies are to do with moral values (governing relations between people) and its acceptance, without going into the domain of religion, that everything in this world depends on God's providence. Freemasons believe that these lessons apply as much today as at the turn of the 17th century when Freemasonry took its present form.
The legend of Solomon's temple
Freemasonry in the world is founded on the principles of masonry of Solomon's temple, which - as one legend has it - built for Adoniram or Adon Hiram. Historically it was not proven, whether this is true, but the Freemasons took just constructing the temple of Solomon as a basis for work.
